Consultation

Counselling is often necessary in cases of sudden hair loss or severe scalp disease. A sympathetic approach is always given to every patient we see. Hence it is always necessary to give adequate time to consultation rather than perform a ten-minute diagnosis. All aspects of scalp and hair problems are discussed at length and questions are particularly invited, eliminating any pre-conceived ideas that the patient may have.

Most people have knowledge of a hair or scalp problem that may have occurred to a friend or a member of the family and all of us are aware that we may loose hair because of genetic predisposition. We may not, however, be aware that our hair is a barometer of our general health and stress status and may dramatically reflect recent traumas. Equally the symptoms of a scalp problem may flare up through similar stimulus.

Treatment

There are numerous treatments available from the chemist, which may be helpful in controlling common scalp conditions. However, long term and complicated issues need careful assessment and hands on treatment, coupled with advice to affect control or cure. Poor hairdressing techniques may exacerbate existing problems or be the main factor in progressive hair loss and breakage. Scalp sensitivity and irritation are often major concerns, adding to the patients’ distress.
Our treatments are mild and consider the sensitive nature of the condition and the patients’ concern.

Ethical Code

Under the ethical code of the Institute of Trichologists, no charges are demanded in advance for courses of treatment since it is impossible to assess the number of treatments that may be required. We will only treat for as long as is truly necessary.

Postal Service

When appropriate, medications can be provided by post to maintain the treated condition. Medications are also available to treat pre-diagnosed conditions.
Diagnosis and treatment is ideally carried out by a qualified member of the Institute of Trichologists or a medically qualified practitioner.
