Hair Loss

The social and psychological importance of hair should not be under estimated since hair loss can and often does cause considerable distress and long-term concern to the sufferer. It is therefore important to seek qualified professional advice as to the causative factors before embarking upon any remedial treatment.

Many people are panicked into accepting bogus treatment from unscrupulous individuals without training or ethics. It is therefore essential to see a registered Trichologist

Scalp Problems

There are many conditions affecting the scalp, which may exist without hair loss occurring as a direct result. These conditions can be equally distressing socially. Heavy scaling and itching conditions may cause cosmetic distress and acute associated irritation may keep the sufferer awake at night. Often a simple regime will alleviate or control the situation. Obviously some conditions are more common than others and often the patient may feel unable to find help.

Scarring

Topically, scalp disease, sometimes caused or sensitised by hairdressing chemicals, may result in more serious damage, irreversibly scarring and causing permanent hair loss. It is essential to treat these types of damage as early as possible since some types of scarring can be quite disfiguring.

The clinics deal with all problems relating to the hair and scalp, including the conditions particular to racial types including Afro, and Asian etc.

Habit – Stress Reactions

Stress is often given as a reason for hair loss problems, sometimes too readily. However there are a number of conditions definitely linked to stress and habit. Lesions most likely observed in the nape of the neck; red and elevated through thickening of the surface of the skin related to continual rubbing and scratching the area. Sometimes another scalp problem will be present such as psoriasis, which incidentally is also triggered by stress.

Diet
It is often said “you are what you eat” and this can be startlingly true in respect to hair density and growth. Hair is primarily made of protein, which if restricted in diet, together with low levels of essential vitamin and mineral intake there will most definitely be an effect on skin and hair.

Hair Quality Factors

Excessive weathering of the hair can drastically affect the quality of the hair. Hairdressing, health and environmental factors are among the reasons that can be implicated
